Bayou Diversity 2

These works on paper were created as illustrations for Kelby Ouchley’s book, “Bayou Diversity 2”, published by LSU Press, Fall 2018.  I began drawing critters when I helped paint them on a bench for Kelby’s retirement as refuge manager at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. I then designed a billboard for the conservation group, Friends of Black Bayou. When Kelby wrote the original “Bayou Diversity” he asked that I do the illustrations for it. I spent countless hours in the field with Kelby and his wife, Amy, learning about our ecosystem and the flora and fauna that inhabit it. Through our long collaboration with both of these books, I eventually earned my junior biologist certificate and Kelby, well, he was already an artist
